This was going to be a post saying "Well, it seems my DVD drive on this computer *is* working after all!" But it's not, because it played half of the 'Firefly' music and then rebooted the computer. Bugger.

The sound card appears to have gone now. Bugger.

Either that or the speakers, and the green light is still showing on them. so I'm presuming it's not them

Edit: No it hasn't, I had it plugged in wrongly! *g*

I've got wireless on my own computer now! Thanks to Local Tech Neighbour, who installed Windows Service Pack three, and also sorted out the problems with AOL and McAfee (both still corrupted by the virus, so thanks for leaving that on, PC World! Grrr...)
It now has AVG on, so I won't bother with putting McAfee back.

Now I need a new DVD Drive for it :-) Possibly a re-writer, if a) I can afford one and b) my computer will take one.

Thank you to Local Tech Neighbour for probably saving me hundreds of pounds on a new computer. He wouldn't take payment, so will be getting a bottle of wine or something instead.

Richard Bos from afp is really starting to get on my nerves

Why can't someone mention cats *just once* in a while, without him banging on about how much he hates cats and cat owners? Quite frankly, I looked at the title of a thread just now, and thought "Yes, I know who the first reply's going to be from..." And I was right too. It's becoming very predictable and very irritating.

I mean, did a cat look at him in a funny way when he was a kid or something? Sheesh...

It seems cats are yet another thing you can't mention on afp nowadays without the sneerers jumping on you.

I mean, fair enough, he has a right not to like a particular animal, but does he have to mention it *every* time someone says something about cats?

These t-shirts are really funny :-)

This morning I was up early on a non-work day, due the early arrival of the men doing our fascias. This meant I was able to do all my hand-washing, even my oldest fleece and a really long black underskirt, both of which have been waiting for a while. There's more stuff left, but that's winter stuff and can wait.

Also due to the fascia men, I haven't been able to hang it out, as they're keeping some of their stuff in our back garden and are going back and forth for it, so the washing line would get in the way. So the conservatory now looks like a washing factory...

The other thing was that, by about half-past ten, I was starting to think "Right, it must be lunchtime now!"

I must remember there's a Council meeting tonight. Not that I'll be able to understand much, as it's Planning, and I doubt I'll be able to hear much either since it's in the local Social Centre where the acoustics are not particularly good. (Meetings usually take place in the meeting room at work, apart from Full Council and the Planning meeting that comes just before it). Still, never mind...

Yesterday, I posted the following sentence...

    "I don't think anyone wasn't stung, thankfully!"

This should, of course, have been 'don't think anyone was stung'. Obviously.

The men have been here doing both our fascias and next door's today.

They were apparently not best pleased when they found that next door's wasp's nest (which, like the one we had dealt with, is in his fascia) was still very much alive and buzzing... Apparently the chap that first found out is wasp-phobic too, poor guy.

    I don't think anyone wasn't stung, thankfully!

I made carrot cake yesterday, from a recipe from an old co-worker of my Mum's. She has somewhat interesting handwriting...at one point I thought it was asking for 'sheepdog paper' (greaseproof), and 'stiff flour and vicars' (sift flour and bicarb). I was confused as to why it appeared to require cod, and thought maybe it might be like Rachel in Friends putting beef in the trifle, but apparently it was actually 'add'. And 'leet brother' is in fact 'beat together' *g*

Anyway, here's the recipe, which I'll put on [info]afp_cooks as well

    Continues good.

    Laptop Recommendations
Right, now we've (hopefully, cross fingers) got wireless up and running, next step is looking for a laptop.

Any recommendations? Under £500 would be nice, under £400 even nicer :-)

I wonder why people who've never heard of me bother following me on Twitter? I've just blocked yet another two this morning...

We've got Broadband! It's good, too! Last night I downloaded five things from iTunes and they each took less than a minute!

I can see I'm going to have to be restrained with iTunes :-) And also with a certain bandwith-pinching fairy known as YouTube...

Last night I had a dream that someone made a film of Family Bites. It was quite good, too! I seem to remember watching it and squeeing a fair bit.

I'm not sure where that came from, other than being stuck on a Ben and Maria scene that's taking longer than expected to re-write

Happy Birthday to [info]sessifet25 :-) Hope you have a good day!

Twitter is fun but I wish it would let me delete updates when I want to! If the update I want to delete is not at the top of the list, then there's no chance. Plus, I tried to delete the one that *was* at the top of the list, and it kept switching to 'reply to (name of other person's update currently at bottom of page)'
